Picking up new hobbies has always been something many students should do especially when they have a lot of free time in their hands. Since the pandemic started early of 2020, many students were forced to attend classes virtually from the comforts of their home. With that said, while attending classes from home it saved time from travelling and classes per day were shorter as students have more study breaks before attending their next class. One hobby which students can learn is baking. There are some things that you will learn while baking. When baking, it teaches you to be more patience. The reason being is that baking has so many skills to master. For example, butter. The butter has three states such as liquid, softened butter and harden cold butter. Different temperature leads to different texture and outcome for your batter. Not only that, the whipping duration and speed has different levels as well such as slow, medium slow, medium, medium fast, fast and very fats. Different whipping duration and speed leads to different batter. Hence brings us to the point which different state of butter, different whipping duration and speed builds a different batter and it takes a lot of trial and error to master it. You also get to grow your love for your hobby in baking when you successfully bake the recipe right and that will bring out the euphoric feeling in you. Not to mention, you can even share you baked products to your family members, neighbours and friends to get their feedback which would encourage you to want to bake even more.

Since the pandemic is still ongoing, it is also good to pick up new hobbies as it can help learn to be more discipline and stay positive as you are doing activities to keep yourself busy and going rather than being idle. It also pushes you to be more productive as each day passes on the calendar. In this case, making a short-term to do list can really help motivate and push yourself to achieve your realistic goals.

Furthermore, cooking is also another hobby you should pick up during this pandemic. Just like baking, cooking also allows you to discover a lot of new recipes. For example, there are many ways to make pasta such as when adding different spices, it can change a dish to another flavour and it will taste equally amazing. You also get to decorate and present you dish in ways you never thought is possible too after you are done cooking. Therefore, having a hobby for cooking does not seem to much of a stress if you think of it as a way where you get to cook your own meal and also decorate it to how you like it. After all, a hobby is something you are passionate about, something which excites and interest you to engage in doing it over and over without feeling bored of it. “For me, cooking is a learning process. When I cook a dish that taste great, it satisfies my passion. I have gust of euphoric whenever my cooking is complimented generously by my family and that keeps me going,” said Arica.

In addition, while learning and mastering cooking and baking as a new hobby, one can also share pictures and videos of their cooked and baked dishes on their social media. It is also great to share your passion for cooking and baking to the public as in return they could get inspired and learn from you and pick up a few recipes of yours. Not to mention, aside from posting pictures and videos of your cooking and baking journey on Instagram, you can also upload it on TikTok since it is currently blooming and it is much easier for your audience to watch all your videos on the platform.

“As for me, I post my step-by-step cooking recipes, videos and pictures of my dishes on my Instagram. It’s a great way to connect with all amazing cooks out there. I also have a TikTok account to post short video clips of my cooking and baking for my audience to see and by doing it makes me feel more passionate about cooking and baking,” said Arica.
